A council has indicated an expectation of significant demand for four new mobile CCTV cameras slated for deployment across its jurisdiction. The local authority in the Borders has observed a decrease in offenses since the region’s Community Action Team commenced the use of two cameras in identified problem areas. It is anticipated that these four additional cameras will contribute to mitigating anti-social behavior in other sections of the area. Julie Pirone, who previously chaired the region’s safer communities board, commented that the cameras convey a “clear message” that the council is seriously addressing such concerns. “These are four mobile cameras that we’ll put into place in our towns and some of our villages around the Borders,” she elaborated. “That will be based on a full deployment plan that is based on analysis and data so that they are going to the right places.” She added, “It also sends a clear message to everyone worried about safety in their communities that we have taken it really seriously and that we are working on it.” The installation of these cameras is scheduled for the coming couple of months, a development Ms Pirone expressed eagerness to witness. She stated that the existing cameras have already made a “huge difference.” These units have been relocated to locations where police identified issues, assisting in addressing encountered problems. Ms Pirone noted that this implies individuals “doing something you shouldn’t be” would be captured on camera. She further remarked that it would also “give reassurance to the public” that their concerns regarding events in their town are being addressed.
