Following each round of Premier League fixtures this season, BBC football pundit Troy Deeney presents his selections for the Team and Manager of the Week. Below are this week’s chosen individuals. Readers are invited to share their perspectives using the comments section. Kepa Arrizabalaga (Bournemouth): Arrizabalaga secured another clean sheet, contributing to Bournemouth’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United. He executed several impressive saves during the match. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool): Deeney described Alexander-Arnold’s performance as ‘unbelievable,’ highlighting his brilliant passes and strong offensive contributions. Deeney noted, “Defensively, he is still doing Alexander-Arnold things but, because of how good he has been going forward and his assists, I had to put him in.” Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest): Aina was part of another significant win for Nottingham Forest, who defeated Brentford away from home. He demonstrated defensive solidity and proved to be a valuable offensive asset, evidenced by his goal. James Tarkowski (Everton): Deeney observed Tarkowski “is quietly going about his business in defence, like Everton are quietly going about their business.” He added that Everton “messed things up for Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks and actually look like they could have nicked more against them.” Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth): While Huijsen scored a goal for Bournemouth, Deeney emphasized that his selection was based on more than just that. Deeney stated, “I’ve watched the 19-year-old a few times this season and he has been really impressive.” Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool): Despite scoring against Tottenham, Deeney indicated that Szoboszlai’s inclusion was not solely due to the goal. He remarked, “His last couple of performances have been really good, we have started to see the potential Liverpool thought they were getting when they signed him.” Matheus Cunha (Wolves): Deeney highlighted Cunha as the player whose performance level has remained consistent amidst Wolves’ circumstances. He noted the impact of the new manager, Vitor Pereira, who led the team to a significant victory against Leicester, stating, “I felt they were calm and composed under him.” Thomas Partey (Arsenal): Deeney described Partey as “Arsenal’s Mr Reliable,” emphasizing his versatility by stating, “Put him at centre-half, it doesn’t matter, put him a right-back and it doesn’t matter, holding midfielder and it doesn’t matter. He just plays where the team need him, goes about his business relatively quietly and he helped Arsenal get a huge win against Palace.” Luis Diaz (Liverpool): Diaz contributed two crucial goals against Tottenham. He appears to be in peak form and is emerging as a key asset for Liverpool’s future prospects. Alexander Isak (Newcastle): Deeney declared Isak “The best striker in English football currently.” He further elaborated, “The one who, if Arsenal signed him, they would win the league and everyone else would be in trouble. But they won’t do that because Newcastle need him and he is too important for them. Newcastle need to spend more money in and around him though or else he will end up moving to one of the big, big clubs.” Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): Deeney summarized Salah’s performance by asking, “What more can you say?” and noting, “Goals and assists again. Another on top form and a huge asset for Liverpool.” Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth): Iraola has guided his team to fifth place in the league, showcasing impressive football. Under his leadership, Bournemouth has secured victories against Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City, marking an exceptional start to their season.
