British comedian Dom Joly has requested that an appropriate venue be made accessible in Jersey, enabling performers such as himself to visit the island. Joly recently performed three times in Guernsey but stated that he could not perform in Jersey due to the absence of suitable locations. During an interview with the BBC Radio Jersey Breakfast Show, Mr. Joly expressed his desire, stating: “Jersey, please get a venue because I really want to come and do a gig.” The Jersey Opera House, which previously hosted similar acts, has been closed since 2020. The government anticipates its reopening by Easter next year, following an allocation of £11.5 million for the refurbishment of the Grade II listed structure. Mr. Joly, recognized for his comedy series Trigger Happy TV, commented: “I have a gig ready to go and I will fly there (Jersey) tomorrow.” He humorously added: “I’m not sure I could fill the Opera House because I’m not a traditional stand up.” He further offered: “So I will do anything, like if you’ve got a village hall then I will come over and do it.” Breakfast Presenter Jenny Mullin suggested to the comedian that the Jersey Arts Centre might be able to accommodate his show for approximately a week. Mr. Joly responded: “Genuinely, I would love to do that.” Additionally, Mr. Joly discussed Christmas Jumper Day with BBC Radio Jersey, an event held on Thursday that generates funds and awareness for the charity Save the Children. He serves as an ambassador for the organization, and the campaign has accumulated £37 million since its inception in 2012. Mr. Joly stated: “It’s about being silly, but most importantly, it’s about raising money for Save the Children.” For updates, follow BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
