The Football Association has issued charges against Luton Town and Sunderland subsequent to a post-match confrontation involving players from both teams following last week’s Championship fixture. This incident included pushing and shoving after the final whistle. The event took place at Kenilworth Road at the conclusion of the match, which saw league leaders Sunderland secure a 2-1 victory. The specific charge against the clubs relates to their alleged failure to guarantee that players and technical area staff “didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way”. Both clubs are required to submit their written responses to the charge by 29 October. During the match, all three goals were scored within an 11-minute period. Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle found the net for Sunderland, while Elijah Adebayo scored Luton’s equaliser. Subsequently, the Luton striker received a racially abusive message through Instagram, an act his club denounced as “abhorrent and unacceptable”.
