Motorists are being alerted to potential disruptions near Stoke-on-Trent railway station as the subsequent stage of a project to enhance bus, pedestrian, and cycle pathways commences. This undertaking is an element of a £29m initiative aimed at strengthening the station’s link to the city centre and improving the adjacent vicinity. Paving activities have already commenced, alongside the installation of a new drainage system designed to mitigate flooding. Effective Monday, car park one, situated adjacent to the Royal Mail sorting office, will be inaccessible until the conclusion of June next year, during which period construction around Winton Square will proceed. The council has strongly recommended that individuals commuting to the station during this timeframe allocate additional time for their travel. While the work is underway, the bus stop positioned outside Federation House will be temporarily moved to the side of the carriageway closer to the station, maintaining access to establishments along Station Road. The pedestrian crossing at Winton Square will remain operational, and a temporary taxi rank will be established outside the square. For those requiring long-stay parking, options will include car park two, situated at the northern extremity of platform one, and car park three, found at the back of the station. The council stated that car park three will offer a complimentary 20-minute drop-off service, and parking facilities for disabled individuals will be provided at both car parks. Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, who holds the position of cabinet member for transport, infrastructure, and regeneration, expressed his satisfaction with the advancement of the project aimed at enhancing the city’s transport connections. He commented, “While this work is going on there will be some disruption and we understand that this can be frustrating for motorists, but I want to reassure everyone that it will be worth it in the end.” He further added, “This project is going to create more room for pedestrians and cyclists, it will help to reduce traffic flow around the station, improve the look of the station itself and more importantly provide us with a better connection to the city centre.” He concluded by saying, “So please bear with us and remember to leave a bit of extra time for your journey.”
