Kent Police reported that a section of the A2 was closed after an assault involving two men, which occurred following an earlier traffic incident. The London-bound side of the road was shut between the A2050 and the A28, close to Canterbury, following the event at approximately 05:40 GMT. The police force stated that one individual sustained serious injuries and was transported to a London hospital, while a second individual was taken to a local hospital. Police officers and personnel from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were present at the location. National Highways confirmed that traffic officers were also on site to help manage vehicle flow. The agency further advised drivers to follow a diversion route by leaving the A2 and proceeding onto the A2050 Dover Road in the direction of Canterbury. A spokesperson for National Highways commented, “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.” A driver informed BBC Radio Kent that they had been stationary in traffic on the carriageway for over four hours following the incident. He stated: “I can see as far as the cars go in front but then behind it’s just traffic all the way back.” “There is a police officer just beginning to get the vehicles turned around but she’s got to go to them individually because there’ll be health and safety risks.” “If everyone started doing it themselves, it’d be carnage.”
