Two individuals taken into custody following the malfunction of a fairground attraction in Birmingham city centre have been granted bail. The men, aged 55 and 21, were apprehended at the City Star Flyer ride in Centenary Square on Thursday evening. Their arrest was made on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and obstructing officers. This development occurred after the ride “crashed to the ground” just before 19:30 GMT, resulting in injuries to 13 occupants, two of whom required hospitalisation. West Midlands Police confirmed that officers were still present at the site on Saturday, providing support for an ongoing Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inquiry. A spokesperson for the force indicated that a security cordon, established after the event between the ice rink, library, and Rep theatre, was expected to stay in effect throughout the weekend. Danter Attractions, the operator of the ride, stated that it was “fully co-operating with the authorities” during the investigation into the crash.
