A rescue operation successfully saved three individuals after their yacht became stranded on a well-known sandbank off the Kent coast. The incident prompted a volunteer team from the RNLI Walmer lifeboat station to respond at 06:57 GMT on Monday. The 11-meter vessel encountered difficulties on the Goodwin Sands, situated approximately six miles east of the station’s base in Deal, Kent. The RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat reached the location, historically referred to as “the great ship swallower,” within 11 minutes of the distress call. With the yacht taking on water amid a two-metre swell, the three individuals aboard were successfully rescued. Following their rescue, they underwent a health check before being transferred to Ramsgate lifeboat station.
