Inter Miami announced that Luis Suarez has signed a new one-year contract, securing his presence at the club for the 2025 season. In 2024, Suarez recorded 20 goals across 27 regular season appearances in Major League Soccer. The 37-year-old Uruguay international initially joined the Major League Soccer team in December 2023, where he rejoined his former Barcelona colleague, Lionel Messi. During the 2024 season, the ex-Liverpool forward netted 25 goals across all competitions, contributing to Miami’s historic first Supporters’ Shield title victory. Despite establishing an MLS regular-season points record of 74, the team was eliminated by Atlanta United in the initial round of the play-offs. Suarez stated, “I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family.” He added, “We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.” The announcement of Suarez’s contract extension follows the club’s appointment of Javier Mascherano, another former Barcelona team-mate, as head coach yesterday, succeeding Gerardo Martino, who resigned.
