Councillors are poised to approve plans for McDonald’s to establish its seventh restaurant in Basildon. The fast-food company indicated that this new 24-hour drive-thru, situated in the Homebase car park off London Road in Basildon, Essex, would generate 120 employment opportunities. According to meeting documents, Basildon Council’s planning committee was anticipated to give its approval to the proposal during its meeting on 4 December. Nineteen objections have been lodged by residents concerning the establishment, citing worries regarding anti-social behaviour, refuse, and a rise in traffic volume. A council officer’s report, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, stated that the location already experiences significant traffic. The officer concluded that the development would not negatively affect the area, writing: “The existing site represents an enclosed site with a clearly defined development footprint.” Should the plan receive approval, this restaurant will mark Basildon’s seventh McDonald’s outlet.
