The public is invited to provide feedback on a proposal for the construction of a new town comprising 4,250 homes, planned for an area near East Midlands Airport. Developers are currently drafting plans for this community, to be named Isley Woodhouse, which would be situated on agricultural land to the south-west of the airport. An outline planning application for this development has not yet been submitted. Feedback gathered during this consultation, which concludes on Friday, will be incorporated into documents presented to North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) as part of the formal application process. If approved, the settlement is slated for construction on land located between Isley Walton, Diseworth, and Tonge. According to the consultation, a section of the A453 would be rerouted around the western side of the proposed site. The Harworth Group and Caesarea Development Holdings are the companies behind this initiative, which the submitted papers describe as intended to be a “vibrant sustainable and mixed community”. Initial proposals for the scheme had sought 4,500 homes, but the most recent version of the plan has reduced this figure to 4,250. NWLDC has stated its expectation for the outline planning application to be submitted in January. The authority will then engage with residents and other organizations as part of the planning procedures. A timeline published within the consultation materials suggests that a full planning application could be submitted in 2026. If consent is granted, construction on the site could commence in the subsequent year. NWLDC has designated the 781-acre (316-hectare) site for development as part of its local plan. This plan outlines where the authority aims to accommodate approximately 700 new homes annually until 2040, in order to meet predicted population growth.
