A central road in Surrey will stay closed after panels on a hotel development loosened during Storm Darragh. Victoria Way in Woking was closed to traffic in both directions on December 7, attributed to compromised exterior rainscreen panels situated on the building’s lower sections. This road had previously been closed on November 25, subsequent to Storm Bert, owing to worries regarding detached cladding on a tall structure. Although the dislodged panels have been made secure, assessments are ongoing to ascertain the complete scope of the damage, according to Victoria Square Woking Ltd. The company stated, “Unfortunately, until that work is completed, Victoria Way will remain closed to ensure the safety of visitors,” and further added, “We are working as quickly as possible to reopen the road but can only do so when we and the authorities are satisfied it is safe.” Victoria Square Woking Ltd issued an apology to individuals impacted by the ongoing closure. A similar incident occurred in October 2021 when cladding panels detached from the Hilton hotel within the town, resulting in several months of road closures for repairs.
