A Christmas tree vendor has provided one of its trees to a city centre, intending to “replace the one looking close to death.” Kingdom of Trees, located at Garon Park, stated it had contributed its final 13ft tree to “the the people and the city of Southend.” Members of the public expressed dissatisfaction with the initial tree on the High Street, with some perceiving it as deficient in ornamentation and vibrancy. Garry Garland, a visitor, mentioned traveling to the city centre specifically to view the Christmas tree, characterizing it as a “disappointment to the people of Southend.” Mr. Garland recounted his experience in Málaga, observing Spain’s festive celebration of the winter holiday. Upon his return flight to England, he proceeded to visit the Southend tree. He commented: “I must admit I’m absolutely horrified. It has got no lights, about 14 baubles and is very much a disappointment to the people of Southend.” The Southend BID business group shared a “lovely shot of our Christmas Tree” on social media on December 7, depicting branches still dense with needles and adorned with fairy lights. Marejka Darcy-Rampling conveyed a comparable sentiment, noting that other urban centers, such as Liverpool, featured “fantastic” trees. She stated: “I think it’s a total embarrassment. This twig of a tree looks like it’s half dead… this is just pants, a load of rubbish… I’m ashamed of Southend.” A representative from Kingdom of Trees announced through social media their intention to provide a Nordmann Fir to the city. They commented: “Due to the Christmas tree in Southend town centre looking close to death we decided to donate our last 13ft display tree to the people and the city of Southend.”
