Southern Water attributed a sewage spill, which resulted in excrement being discharged onto a West Sussex street, to a mechanical fault. The utility firm issued an apology following the discharge of sewage into Albion Street, Southwick, originating from its adjacent pumping station on Saturday. A local resident informed the BBC that the vicinity was permeated by a “stench of drains and faeces,” which “stayed with me well after leaving.” Southern Water expressed that it was “very sorry for the disruption and inconvenience to the local community.” A spokesperson for the water provider further stated: “Our team worked overnight to swiftly clean up the sewage overflow, which was caused by a mechanical failure that has now been resolved.” On Saturday, Southern Water had previously indicated that a recurring blockage issue was attributable to “unflushables.” Post navigation Flood Prevention Project to Commence Hitchin Flood Victims Demand Winter Prevention Measures
