British number one Katie Boulter and Australian world number nine Alex de Minaur have announced their engagement. The couple, who first met on the tennis circuit, started dating in March 2020 and have been together for nearly five years. Ms. Boulter, ranked world number 24, shared the news on Instagram, including a photograph of the ring. Her post stated: “We’ve been keeping a small secret.” Great Britain is scheduled to compete against Australia in the United Cup in Sydney on 1 January. Both Boulter, aged 28, and De Minaur, aged 25, have been selected for their national teams. Given that each fixture includes two singles matches and a mixed doubles tie, there is a possibility that Boulter and De Minaur could face each other if chosen for the doubles event. Prior to the engagement announcement, Boulter had commented: “I wouldn’t say I was thrilled at the idea of playing him all over again.” She added: “He’s a top-10 player and he knows how to play tennis, so there’s one side of it.” Boulter also mentioned: “Then there’s the personal side of it, which is difficult but also great for bragging rights.” As a doubles pair, Boulter and De Minaur advanced to the second round of the mixed doubles competition at Wimbledon last year.
