Phil Parkinson stated that Wrexham’s “humble” supporters will be instrumental in his team’s potential advancement to the Championship. Wrexham is set to return to competition on Tuesday against Barnsley, another club vying for promotion in League One. This upcoming match represents the third consecutive home fixture for the second-placed Dragons, who have accumulated 25 points from nine home games this season. Parkinson, who aims to guide Wrexham to a third successive promotion, believes the fans’ attitude can significantly aid their objective. “The supporters play a huge part at home,” said the Wrexham boss. He added, “I think they are humble. They don’t take that we are going to win for granted, they come with a feeling that ‘we have got to do our bit for the lads’ because sometimes it doesn’t go all your way, teams come and make a difficult.” Parkinson further commented, “This place will be bouncing on Tuesday night against Barnsley. It’s a big club coming to town.” Wrexham’s exit from the FA Cup in the first round provided them with a free weekend, granting Parkinson a full week to prepare for Barnsley following their hard-fought victory over Lincoln City last Tuesday. The Tykes, currently in sixth place, have reached the League One play-offs in each of the past two seasons, having been relegated from the Championship in 2022. Parkinson indicated that Wrexham’s attitude has been crucial to their successes this season and stressed that maintaining this approach is necessary if they are to reach the second tier. He remarked, “As a group we have a relentlessness about us and we have to keep that going because if you want to be at the top of a division, you have to be relentless.” Parkinson concluded, “Barnsley have been play-offs last couple of years, been up in the Championship, but they are the tests we want.”
