A new bus ticket offering a one-third discount has been introduced for teenagers travelling across East Cheshire. The council stated that this pass is available to residents aged 16 to 19 for bus journeys at any time, providing a third off the standard adult fare. The scheme will be implemented as a two-year trial and is being financed by the Department for Transport. Cheshire East Council clarified that the 16 to 19 bus saver card is valid for trips that either begin or end within its administrative area. Furthermore, care leavers aged 16 to 22 are also entitled to free travel with the same pass. The council confirmed that the smart pass will be issued once individuals complete an online application. Councillor Laura Crane remarked: “Bridging that gap between childhood and the start of adult life is a difficult enough time for a young person without having to be thinking about the affordability of getting around.” Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
