A fire that ignited in a chip shop led to a boy being escorted to safety and three individuals evacuating their apartments. The retail establishment was situated on the ground floor of a three-storey structure on Stafford Street, Wolverhampton, a building that also contained a basement, bedsits, and a flat on its upper levels. According to the West Midlands Fire Service, “Three people had freed themselves from the residential accommodation before we arrived and one boy was led to safety by firefighters.” The service further stated, “There were no injuries or casualties.” Emergency crews, summoned shortly after 20:10 GMT, extinguished the fire using three jets and departed the location at 00:45 GMT. The conflagration is believed to have originated in a chip fryer. A statement from the fire service confirmed, “All the flats and the basement were searched and everyone was accounted for.” Firefighters from stations in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Fallings Park, Tettenhall, and Bilston were dispatched to the site, accompanied by a 4×4 brigade response vehicle. The service reported that firefighters returned shortly after 06:15 GMT on Wednesday to inspect for any lingering hotspots, though none were detected.
