Three individuals have been apprehended on suspicion of cannabis production following the discovery of plants with an estimated value of £2.7 million. Approximately 3,000 mature cannabis plants, alongside several boxes of already harvested plants, were located within a disused industrial facility in Hortonwood, Telford, Shropshire, on Friday. The men, aged 27, 30, and 45, who had been residing at the unit, were subsequently placed into custody. This finding occurred just days after a separate cultivation site, comprising 874 plants with an estimated street value of £800,000, was uncovered at a property in Woodside in the same town on Wednesday. West Mercia Police reported that the three men attempted to evade apprehension by forcing open a rear door. “Many illicit cannabis farms are controlled by serious and organised crime gangs, which often use violence, intimidation, and illegal activities to operate,” stated Sgt Matt Corfield. Regarding the Woodside discovery, no arrests have been made, and investigations are continuing. Follow BBC Shropshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC.
