Authorities have apprehended a man in connection with the suspected murder of an eight-year-old girl in New Ross, County Wexford. The child, identified as Malika Al Kattib, sustained injuries during an incident that occurred at a residence in the town on Sunday evening. The individual taken into custody, described as being in his 30s, had previously been hospitalized for treatment after the event. Gardaí, Ireland’s national police force, confirmed his release from the hospital and subsequent detention on suspicion of murder. The day following the child’s fatality, police reported that a man and a woman, both in their 30s, received hospital care for injuries that were not life-threatening. The injured woman is believed to be Malika’s mother. The incident occurred in very close proximity to the New Ross Garda Station. Malika was a pupil at New Ross Educate Together National School, a local primary school situated in nearby Barrett’s Park. On Monday, the school issued a statement characterizing her passing as a “terrible tragedy for the family, our school and our community”.
