This Champions League season, Lille has accumulated seven points across four matches. The Ligue 1 club Lille has reported that two of its supporters sustained stab wounds in what it described as a “cowardly and intolerable attack” preceding their Champions League fixture against Bologna on Wednesday. Following awareness of the event, the club advised fans to “exercise vigilance”. Italian media, citing local police, indicated that approximately 80 individuals, thought to be Bologna supporters, assailed about 30 Lille fans. The incident occurred outside a bar situated in the city’s university district, with the attackers reportedly wielding metal bars and belts. Police confirmed that a total of three Lille fans were injured, received hospital treatment, and were subsequently discharged. In an official statement, Lille declared: “The club unreservedly condemns this cowardly and intolerable attack, which contravenes all the values of football and popular support.” The statement continued: “We offer our support to the supporters who are victims of these attacks and wish them a speedy recovery.” Lille is currently vying for a Champions League last-16 play-off position, holding 17th place in the 36-team standings with seven points. In contrast, Bologna has secured only one point after four games and is contending against elimination.
