Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes addressed the media ahead of his team’s match against Dundee at Rugby Park on Saturday, discussing several key topics. McInnes confirmed that Stuart Findlay successfully underwent surgery and is expected to be sidelined for approximately three to four months. Due to Findlay’s unavailability, the Kilmarnock manager indicated a potential move to reinforce the squad in January, contingent on developments in the upcoming weeks. He also disclosed that David Watson sustained a thigh strain last weekend, making his current status “tough and go.” Furthermore, Matty Kennedy has not participated in squad training this week but received a back injection, with hopes for his readiness for the weekend’s game. McInnes expressed criticism regarding the perceived inconsistency in the issuance of bookings and red cards, stating, “I don’t believe we’re a dirty team,” in response to the multiple sending-offs his squad has experienced this season. The Kilmarnock manager conveyed his reluctance to continually discuss red cards but believes his team has faced “full extreme” penalties concerning bookings and second yellow cards. He reiterated, “I don’t believe we have a discipline problem but the number of red cards would suggest otherwise.” He further mentioned that he and his coaching staff might need to consider substituting players who receive yellow cards, a strategy he has not previously contemplated in his 17-year managerial career. Regarding Liam Donnelly’s red card last weekend, McInnes commented, “I’d be apoplectic if he didn’t make a challenge there,” and maintained that not every cardable offense warrants a yellow card. Turning his attention to the upcoming match against Dundee, McInnes conveyed his disappointment over the manner of their previous defeat to the team. He also highlighted the “unusual” circumstance of encountering Tony Docherty’s side for the third occasion this season, despite it still being November. Regarding the team’s subsequent 10 fixtures, with six scheduled at home, the manager encouraged his players to maximize their advantage in the forthcoming games at Rugby Park. McInnes also stated his objective for Kilmarnock to be at least in mid-table position and poised to advance further by the conclusion of the festive fixture period.
