Matty James expressed his determination to silence his “doubters” by contributing to Wrexham’s pursuit of a third consecutive promotion during the current season. The 33-year-old midfielder joined Phil Parkinson’s team on a short-term contract, set to expire in January, following his release from Championship club Bristol City. James, despite his extensive experience, indicated that his age presented an obstacle in securing a new club. He stated, “I want to prove people wrong. When I joined I had a lot of people who supported me, but a lot of doubters as well putting a bit of stigma on my age which I completely disagreed with,” adding, “I know my capabilities… I know how my body feels and I know what I can do.” Following two appearances as a substitute, James has been included in the starting lineup for Wrexham’s last two victories, against Exeter City and Lincoln City. Wrexham currently holds the second position in the League One table, and James expressed his desire to retain his spot in the squad. He commented, “Just to be back out there playing is unbelievable for me. To be getting wins is also an amazing feeling.” He further elaborated, “It’s everything I was fighting for during the months I was off. “It’s almost like a pre-season for me, but I’m playing at a high level and I’m doing as much as I can to recover between games. “The motivation now is to stay in the team and win football matches. “I’m grabbing this opportunity with both hands really, and trying to take the team to the next level.”
