A significant thoroughfare is scheduled to remain closed for a second day following an incident where a tanker overturned, releasing a “significant” quantity of fuel. The vehicle departed the A66 carriageway near Threlkeld in Cumbria, situated between the A591 at Keswick and the A5091 (Troutbeck), shortly after 05:00 GMT on Saturday. National Highways confirmed the tanker’s recovery but stated that “an extensive repair and resurfacing operation” is “likely take another day at least.” Diversion routes are operational, but the agency further indicated that journeys are anticipated to be considerably longer than typical.
