Emma Raducanu has commenced collaboration with fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, who is recognized for his previous work with athletes Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka. Raducanu is scheduled to begin her season in Auckland in late December. The 22-year-old athlete, set to travel to Brisbane next week for warm weather training in preparation for the upcoming season, indicated that Nakamura will be present with her for “pretty much most weeks” throughout the year. Her career has been consistently impeded by injuries since her US Open victory as a teenager in 2021. After a trial period conducted earlier in the autumn, she believes the current timing is appropriate for incorporating a specialized fitness expert into her support staff. Raducanu commented, “I think he is going to help me just really explore how far I can go, like athletically.” She added, “I think it’s a big strength of mine that I have nowhere near fulfilled. I think I can become one of the best athletes out there in tennis and I’m just looking forward to seeing how much I can do.” Furthermore, she stated, “My natural athleticism is something that I have to use. I have to hone it, I have to polish it, it’s still pretty raw and I don’t think anywhere near fully developed so he’s going to help me explore that.” Nakamura has spent the entire week training alongside Raducanu and her coach, Nick Cavaday, at the National Tennis Centre in London. Following Christmas in New Zealand, Raducanu is set to commence her season in Auckland at the close of December, with aspirations to compete in Adelaide prior to the Australian Open’s start on 12 January.
