Authorities have issued a call for witnesses and information after a fire occurred in the lobby of a gym located in West Sussex. The incident, which led to the evacuation of two individuals from the PureGym on London Road in Burgess Hill, prompted emergency services to respond to the premises at approximately 03:20 GMT on Tuesday. Sussex Police suspect the fire, which originated in a bin, was intentionally set. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with pertinent information or who witnessed the event to contact them. Sussex Police, alongside two fire engines, were present at the location, departing around 06:30. According to West Sussex Fire and Rescue, “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hose reel and a jet.” A spokesperson for PureGym confirmed that no injuries were sustained during the incident. They stated, “The fire brigade were at the scene quickly and did an outstanding job extinguishing the fire. We thank them for their responsiveness and professionalism.” The facility will remain closed temporarily for necessary repairs, and patrons are directed to utilize the PureGym in Haywards Heath as an alternative during this period.
