Manchester United has dismissed manager Erik ten Hag due to the team’s unfavorable start to the current season. Ten Hag’s last match in charge was Sunday’s 2-1 loss against West Ham, which positioned the club 14th in the Premier League with only three victories from their initial nine games. The club also ranks 21st out of 36 teams in the Europa League standings, having drawn all three of their opening fixtures. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been appointed as the interim manager. The club stated that Van Nistelrooy would lead the team “while a permanent head coach is recruited”. Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth notified Ten Hag of the decision during a personal meeting held at the club’s Carrington training ground on Monday morning. Sources within the club emphasized that this was a difficult decision, yet it was a unanimous one. United captain Bruno Fernandes posted on Instagram, stating: “Thanks for everything, boss.” He added: “I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future.” The club had activated a one-year extension in Ten Hag’s contract subsequent to May’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, but he has been dismissed just over three months later. United currently possess their second-poorest Premier League points total after nine
