A proposal for an arboretum to be included in a forthcoming housing development has been put forward. The initial stage of the Burtree Garden Village project in Darlington received approval earlier this year, encompassing a preliminary 750 residences. According to the applicants, Hellens Group and Homes England, the arboretum is intended to offer an “accessible green space,” complete with a pathway that will guide visitors to “a scenic viewpoint.” Prior to this, local residents expressed worries that the existing sewage infrastructure might be insufficient for the additional housing. However, Darlington Borough Council stated that Northumbrian Water had provided assurances regarding its capacity to handle the heightened demand. Situated in the town’s Faverdale district, the project is projected to ultimately comprise approximately 2,000 new residences constructed across a two-decade timeframe. Furthermore, a new educational institution, a community hub, a public house, and healthcare amenities are also part of the proposals, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The application concerning the arboretum will be reviewed by Darlington Borough Council at a subsequent time, with construction anticipated to commence in the coming year.
