Nine-year-old Ruby, a resident of Leicester, has achieved recognition on the big screen, thanks to her passion for painting. Ruby emerged victorious in a competition to create the PG age rating card, which will be displayed before the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The movie debuted in the UK on Tuesday. Her design, depicting Sonic running across the British Board of Film Classification’s (BBFC) logo, was selected over entries from 1,300 other young artists. Following her attendance at the premiere, she stated: “I met all the stars of the show. I loved it.” Among the notable personalities seen on a blue carpet, deviating from the customary red, were Jim Carrey, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, and James Marsden. Ruby further commented: “It was amazing seeing my artwork on the screen. I couldn’t believe it. Everyone clapped, and I was very shy, but I loved it.” Her father, Scott, described the premiere as “absolutely enormous with thousands of people there on the blue carpet.” Ruby’s entry into the competition followed her expressing to her mother a desire to participate in an art contest, with the BBFC’s ‘Create the Card’ being the initial opportunity presented. Lydia stated: “Ruby wanted to enter a competition just a few weeks ago. She loves her art, and this ‘Create the Card’ competition was the first to come up, and because she happens to love Sonic as well, she was very enthusiastic about entering this one.” Lydia subsequently mentioned that Ruby submitted her entry relatively near the deadline, after which Lydia received a phone call confirming Ruby’s victory. “I was getting on a bus when I got a phone call from Natasha Kaplinsky, who is president of the BBFC. I didn’t quite take in who it was or what she said, so she had to repeat it!” For updates, follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
