Worcestershire has finalized a three-year contract with Nottinghamshire spinner Fateh Singh, following his short-term loan during the 2024 One-Day Cup season, where he performed for the club under the observation of former Pears and England spinner Richard Illingworth. The 20-year-old slow left-arm bowler, Singh, who concluded the season on a separate loan with Northamptonshire, will now remain with Worcester through the conclusion of the 2027 campaign. Worcestershire chief executive Ashley Giles stated, “This is a crucial step as we continue to build our squad. Strengthening our spin department has been a priority. Fateh demonstrated his potential in the One-Day Cup.” The former England Under-19 international made his first-class debut when Northants played Yorkshire in the final Division Two game of the season, but he will now be in contention to play in Division One for Worcestershire. The club comfortably maintained its Division One status, finishing in its highest position since County Championship cricket adopted a two-tier structure in 2000. The Pears’ spin bowling unit experienced significant challenges due to the tragic loss of Josh Baker early in the season. Captain Brett D’Oliveira’s shoulder injury restricted his ability to bowl. Additionally, the Pears decided against pursuing the proposed signing of Surrey’s Amar Virdi, after his two loan spells at New Road. Nottingham-born Singh, who was a member of a youthful Pears squad that unexpectedly reached the One-Day Cup quarter-finals, commented, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be back with Worcestershire long term. Playing regularly and contributing with wickets as part of a young attack was very rewarding. I was made to feel so welcome, and I found a strong rhythm with the ball. With several players out injured, everyone stepped up, which was brilliant.” Fateh Singh’s first-class debut occurred on loan for Northants at Headingley in September.
