A community tree planting initiative, designed to establish new habitats, has extended an invitation to residents in a specific Surrey locality. This event is scheduled for 30 November, from 10:00 GMT to 12:00, at Grovelands Recreation Ground in West Molesey, where various young trees, such as crab apple, hawthorn, wild cherry, walnut, chestnut, and cobnut, are slated for planting. Ashley Tilling, who serves as Elmbridge Borough Council’s cabinet member for climate change, environmental services, and sustainability, stated: “By planting a diverse range of trees, we are not only enhancing biodiversity, but creating a healthier and more vibrant ecosystem for future generations to enjoy.” Equipment will be provided for loan, enabling all interested individuals to participate in the activity. Simon Waugh, the council’s portfolio holder for leisure, culture, and commercial strategy, commented: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for residents to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and help us make the recreation ground a welcoming and enjoyable place to spend time outdoors.” Previously in 2024, the council introduced an action fund intended for projects addressing the effects of climate change. The newly established Elmbridge Community Climate Action Fund offered up to £5,000 for each group to apply for. For further information, follow BBC Surrey on Facebook and X.
