Cornwall Fire Service is actively recruiting on-call firefighters to serve at 26 fire stations throughout Cornwall. The service announced that positions are open to individuals aged 18 or above who either live or work within a five-minute proximity of a station. Opportunities are available in various areas, including Penzance, Truro, Falmouth, and Saltash. On-call firefighters are compensated according to their availability and the activity level of their respective station. While their main duty is responding to emergency call-outs, they are also required to attend a weekly two-hour training session and other prearranged tasks. Those interested in becoming an on-call firefighter are advised to visit the Cornwall Fire Service website for more information. Chief fire officer Kathryn Billing noted that on-call firefighters make up 75% of the service’s crews and perform an “important role” in ensuring the safety of their communities. Ms. Billing added, “We’re looking for people across Cornwall who are ready for a new challenge.”
