Harry, a 13-year-old from Newbury, Berkshire, has harbored aspirations of becoming a DJ since he was six years old, an ambition that now includes performing at Glastonbury, which might appear unusual given his age. The previous summer, at the age of 12, he successfully secured a DJ slot at the Carfest festival in Hampshire by displaying a sign for three days requesting to perform. One year later, operating under the moniker DJ Hypester, he has played at various gigs and festivals nationwide and has garnered backing from prominent figures within the music industry. Harry’s affinity for music originated during his toddler years. He recounted, “After I started going to Carfest when I was two years old, that’s when I really started to get into house, dance, that sort of music.” At the same festival, four years subsequent to his first attendance, he recognized his ambition to become a DJ. He recalled, “I said to my dad ‘can you actually do this as a job?'” adding, “And he was like ‘yeah’ and I was like ‘I’ll do that then’.” During 2023, he performed a set at Carfest, an opportunity he secured after displaying a sign that read “let me DJ” for a duration of three days. He stated, “I just held my ground.” He continued, “On the Sunday afternoon… we got a message from Carfest saying ‘come to the stage now’… and I ran as fast as I could.” He characterized the experience as “amazing”. He remarked, “It was the best feeling I’ve ever felt because it’s the first time I’ve ever DJ’d in front of that big of a crowd.” The DJ duo Chase & Status, described as the “biggest of the biggest,” took notice of his story. Following this, he has performed at Carfest once more, in addition to appearances at Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall, The Bog in Bristol, and Arts ARKADE in London. His mother, Barbra, commented that her son had consistently shown a love for music and that she had foreseen his success. She stated, “We knew it was coming – we just did not know it was going to be this quick.” She described witnessing his performance as “amazing”. Harry indicated that his preferred aspect of performing was the “adrenaline,” though he found it impossible to choose a single favorite gig. He affirmed, “All my gigs are my favourite.” Audiences can connect with BBC Berkshire via Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
