Bristol City’s loan midfielder, George Earthy, has been selected for the England Under-21 squad for the first time. This call-up follows a series of player withdrawals, either due to injuries or their progression to the senior national team. The 20-year-old, who was initially part of the England Elite Development Squad, is on loan from Premier League club West Ham United. He has made eight Championship appearances for the Robins since joining in August. Despite sustaining an ankle injury earlier this season, Earthy has gradually increased his playing time for the Robins, starting their last two Championship fixtures against Sheffield United and Norwich City. Earthy’s maiden call-up is shared with Norwich’s Kellen Fisher and Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley. Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, and Jack Hinshelwood of Brighton & Hove Albion have withdrawn from Ben Futcher’s squad due to injury. Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Tino Livramento (Newcastle), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa), and James Trafford (Burnley) were also originally named in the U21 set-up but have since been promoted to the senior England group.
