The public is invited to provide feedback on a proposed planning application for a residential development adjacent to an airfield. Developers are seeking to construct approximately 2,500 new residences, along with a primary school, a local centre, and associated infrastructure. This development is planned for land situated east of Gamston and north of Tollerton, bordering Tollerton Airfield, within Nottinghamshire. The initial proposals for this phased project were lodged in December 2020. However, Rushcliffe Borough Council has indicated that the applicants have since provided further information. Members of the public have until January 31 to submit their comments regarding the proposal. While the council did not specify the nature of the additional information, its planning website indicates that a new planning statement, highways reports, and other documents were submitted by the applicants earlier in December. This application seeks outline planning permission for the phased construction on land surrounding the airfield. It is distinct from a separate development proposed by Vistry Homes directly on the airfield, which has already generated a petition in opposition. Roger Upton, who holds the cabinet portfolio for planning and housing at the council, stated that the authority “cannot determine any application” for the location until a masterplan has been established. The council further commented: “Planning officers are working positively with the consortium of landowners and developers for the development of this masterplan to ensure all public and community infrastructure is planned properly and to the highest standards, taking account of the needs of the new and existing communities.” According to planning documents, the envisioned development aims to provide a “wide range of new homes” to address the local demand for housing. A planning statement also indicated that the project would generate employment opportunities throughout its construction phase, “which could be more than 15 years.” The council’s planning website reports that the proposal has accumulated 554 public comments since its initial submission in 2020, with 527 of these expressing objections.
