Surrey County Council has announced that efforts will be undertaken over the next several months to enhance the visual condition of roads and pavements throughout Surrey. A council spokesperson stated that additional highways teams would be deployed to ensure roads were “in a better place ahead of spring.” These activities will encompass tasks such as trimming hedges, controlling weeds, cleaning road signage, and clearing drains. Surrey County Council acknowledged that this matter is of significant concern to residents. The authority clarified that these new measures are in addition to the £300m it has already committed to repairing and improving Surrey’s roads and pavements by 2028. Matt Furniss, cabinet member for highways, transport and economic growth, commented: “We recognise that the condition and appearance of our roads and pavements is a highly important issue for our residents. We have listened and will be dedicating teams to enhance areas of our communities that need some extra attention.” The council reported that it has already completed work on 100 roads since the beginning of November 2024. The initial improvements have been observed in Leatherhead, Guildford and Ashford.
