The Channel Islands Co-operative Society (Coop) has announced the allocation of approximately £40,000 to local charities and various causes. The organization stated that its Autumn Community Fund payout was distributed to a “wide range of causes,” providing substantial support for projects focused on mental health, education, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. A precise total of £39,807 was awarded across the Channel Islands, benefiting 36 distinct initiatives in both Jersey and Guernsey, the retailer further noted. In Guernsey, 21 applicants were successful in this autumn funding round, including the Guernsey Counselling Service. This service is recognized as the only Guernsey charity offering general counselling and accepting clients irrespective of their ability to pay. Colin Le Ray, representing the charity, stated: “The very generous donation of £1,200 will fund 30 client sessions over the next few months which will help vulnerable islanders with many aspects of life’s pressures, including stress, anxiety, loneliness and isolation.” Among other beneficiaries, Guernsey Cheshire Homes indicated that the funds it received would be directed towards repairing the roof of its facility. Guernsey Beach Wheelchairs confirmed receiving £2,000, which will enable it to continue providing its specially adapted beach wheelchairs to disabled locals and visitors free of charge. Mark Cox, Head of community and sustainability at CI Coop, commented that the community funding reflects the organization’s “commitment to supporting a diverse range of projects that truly make a difference in the lives of islanders.” He added: “From enhancing accessibility and education to promoting well-being and environmental sustainability, we are excited to see how these initiatives will benefit our communities in Jersey and Guernsey.” The retailer originally introduced this community fund in 2021 with the objective of supporting projects and causes that resonate most strongly with CI Coop and its members.
