Beau Greaves has secured the WDF Women’s World Darts Championship for the third consecutive year, concluding her victory with an 11-dart leg. The 20-year-old English competitor, Greaves, recovered from a set deficit to overcome Scotland’s Sophie McKinlay, 18, with a 4-1 score in the final match. After finalizing her win on the bullseye with an 89 checkout, Greaves stated: “I’m just so relieved. I felt so much pressure.” Ireland’s Shane McGuirk, 29, claimed the men’s championship by defeating Paul Lim, 70, with a final score of 6-3. Lim, known by the moniker ‘Singapore Slinger’, competed on the identical Lakeside stage where, 34 years prior, he achieved distinction as the first player to execute a nine-dart finish in a world championship. Earlier, McKinlay was defeated 2-0 in the girls’ final by England’s Paige Pauling, 16. Archie Self, 15, earned the distinction of becoming the first English world boys’ champion, securing a 3-2 victory against Jenson Walker. Competitors are ineligible to participate in both the WDF world championships and the PDC tournament, the latter of which is set to commence at Alexandra Palace on 15 December. Sandi Toksvig’s broadcast features Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Alan Davies. Opportunities are available to perform songs by Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry, and other artists. Ben Fogle and Kate Humble are scheduled to return for the festive events at Longleat Safari Park. Topics discussed range from microplastics in air, soil, and waterways to the volume of food waste observed during this period of the year. © 2024 BBC.
