Vocalist Sam Ryder has expressed his anticipation for his upcoming performance in Hastings, stating that the town deviates from typical tour routes, being “off the beaten track” of the usual tour schedule, and adding that “these shows can be better, as the crowd can be better”. Ryder, known for securing second place for the UK in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, conveyed his expectation that his concert at the White Rock on 5 December would be “wicked”. During an interview with BBC Radio Sussex, Ryder mentioned that he had not previously performed at the White Rock, but he was eager for the opportunity. He further stated, “I have nothing but gratitude for the people coming to see me and I am looking forward to playing for them.” Ryder noted that numerous “so many amazing places” are frequently omitted from concert itineraries. He elaborated, “The character of the people who come to those shows and the energy is another level.” He informed that attendees could anticipate hearing tracks from his debut album “for the last time for a while” as he makes preparations for the launch of his sophomore album. Hailing from Maldon, Essex, he commenced his musical journey at 14 years old and described performing in venues such as the White Rock as a “dream”. He articulated, “It means a great deal to be able to put these shows up and to come and play in these venues.” During 2023, he received a nomination for Best New Artist at the Brit Awards, making him the inaugural Eurovision participant to be nominated in this specific category.
