Kylian Mbappe has affirmed his dedication to playing for France, even after his exclusion from the national team’s two most recent squads. He previously won the World Cup with France at the age of 19. The 25-year-old Real Madrid forward, who serves as France’s captain, possesses 86 international caps. He was instrumental in their 2018 World Cup victory and scored a hat-trick in the 2022 final, which France lost to Argentina. Despite his stature, Mbappe was not selected for the French squad in October, a decision attributed to caution following an injury return, and was subsequently omitted again the next month without a stated reason. Speaking to Canal+, Mbappe stated: “The French team has always been the highest rank in football, it’s the national team. I’ve always said there’s nothing more important. My love for the French team hasn’t changed.” He added: “You serve your country and that’s it.” Mbappe has accumulated 48 goals for his national team, though he scored only one competitive goal in 2024. He experienced a challenging Euro 2024, participating in a significant portion of the tournament while suffering from a broken nose. France’s head coach, Didier Deschamps, characterized Mbappe’s omission from the November Nations League games as a “one-off” decision. Mbappe commented on the situation, saying: “I can’t talk about November because it was a decision from the coach and I’ll get behind what he said.” He continued: “I fully respect his decision because he is the boss. I wanted to go but I can’t say why.” Following his free transfer move from Paris St-Germain this summer, Mbappe has not yet reached his peak form for Real Madrid. Nevertheless, he has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances for the Spanish club. The issue of insufficient rest for elite footballers is expected to gain renewed attention when Fifa hosts an expanded 32-team Club World Cup in the United States next summer. Mbappe is slated to participate in this event, with the standard World Cup scheduled for the summer of 2026. Leagues, national associations, and player unions have expressed significant apprehension regarding the demanding football calendar. Mbappe himself indicated that player fatigue is an unavoidable consequence. “In the NBA [National Basketball Association], they get four months off,” Mbappe noted. “We get two weeks. And in the second week, we’re already back to running. It’s not a vacation.” He added concerning Euro 2024: “I was tired [at Euro 2024]. I wanted to stay because you give everything for the French team but it was exhausting.” Post navigation Aston Villa Captain John McGinn Reflects on Team’s Defeat Hearts’ Baningime Believes Tough Win Can Turn Season Around
