Following a 1-1 home draw against Arsenal, where Manchester United recovered from a deficit to secure a point, the club’s interim head of women’s football, Matt Johnson, articulated their aspiration to persist in “competing in Europe and winning more trophies” over the forthcoming years. During an interview with BBC Sport at halftime of Sunday’s 1-1 home match against Arsenal, Johnson conveyed: “We want to create a women’s football team that can compete with the best in the country. “We are starting to see the fruits of our plans that are in place and we are happy with the progress. We feel we are working in the right direction towards our ambition.”” The club encountered scrutiny concerning its management of the women’s team, specifically after their relocation this summer from their bespoke £7m training facility to accommodate the men’s first team. This decision was later defended by manager Marc Skinner. Nevertheless, Johnson asserted that the team continues to be a “key priority” going forward. He stated: “The redevelopment of Carrington is a £50m investment to create a top training ground for men, women and academy teams. Big picture that is amazing. In the short term, the girls have got everything that they need to succeed and thrive.”” Manchester United maintains an unbeaten record following their initial five matches of the season, currently occupying fourth place in the league standings, trailing Manchester City, Brighton, and Chelsea. Although the team has demonstrated potential thus far, Johnson indicated that further developments are anticipated from the club both on and off the pitch. He remarked: “In terms of our progress, we are not far off. We are in the top three at the moment and our team is playing really well. There is lots of work to be done on and off the pitch but we are moving in the right direction.””
