Newport County’s head coach, Nelson Jardim, expressed a sense of aging after giving new signing Geoffroy Bony his first appearance in Saturday’s goalless draw against Notts County. The 19-year-old forward is the son of Wilfried Bony, a former Ivory Coast international who played for Manchester City, Swansea City, and Stoke City. Following in his father’s footsteps, Bony also plays as a striker. He had been training with the Exiles for several weeks before signing a contract last week. Jardim lightheartedly remarked, “He’s been working with us hard, he’s just a nice boy, and Geoff just shows how old I am getting.” He also reflected on the occasion, stating, “When I heard our fans singing his dad’s song, it brought me good memories, very good memories indeed.” When questioned about Geoffroy Bony’s comparison to his father, Jardim responded, “He’s not even half [as good] yet, but it’s about progression and moving forwards.” He further elaborated on the younger Bony’s development, adding, “His dad was a different player obviously. He’s learned a lot off his dad, he’s got good genes and mainly he’s a very good boy. Wilfried has done a good job.” Post navigation St Mirren vs. Aberdeen: Key Match Statistics Football Association Apologizes for Technical Issues During Women’s FA Cup Draw
