Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has requested “clarity” regarding the club’s proposed takeover, emphasizing the need for resolution prior to the January transfer window. The team, under Wilder’s leadership, has achieved a five-match unbeaten streak, placing them level on points with Leeds United and Sunderland at the summit of the Championship table. Their next fixture is against Oxford United at home on Tuesday. Wilder’s desire to reinforce his squad is particularly pressing following the loss of influential midfielder Oliver Arblaster, who sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the Sheffield derby last week. However, a proposed takeover by a consortium spearheaded by US-based businessmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy remains unfinalized, as current owner Prince Abdullah has not yet reached an agreement on terms. Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Wilder indicated his belief that a definitive decision regarding the club’s future is imminent. He also conveyed his wish to ascertain the available budget for potential squad additions in the upcoming new year. “I believe we need clarity and I like to think we’re coming up to that point now, one way or the other,” he said. “[Chief executive] Stephen Bettis has kept me in the loop as much as he can, and with whatever he knows – we’re on the same page with that.“When it does happen, or if it doesn’t happen, definitely for January we need to strengthen and feel that especially after losing Arblaster, it’s important that when [we get injuries] we have a strong bench and strong group so I’d like to think we’ll be able to do some business in January.“We still have two loan slots available which is good, and promising, and if there is an opportunity to do that I do think the chemistry of the group is really important.“We don’t need four, five or six but we certainly need two or three to bolster the group.“I like to think we’ll be given the opportunity to do that because the prize is big at the end of the season. Into January and after Christmas it will take its toll and the strongest squads will come through and if we have the ability to do something it will definitely strengthen us.”
