A substantial accumulation of waste situated in a front garden, which has been described as causing “misery” for nearby residents, is scheduled for removal following the issuance of a court order. This collection of debris, located on Peach Avenue in Stafford, comprises items such as furniture, rubble, and wooden panels. It has remained in place for over a year and, according to local residents, has been attracting rats. Stafford Borough Council obtained a closure order from magistrates last Friday. This action was taken after Steven Glover, the tenant of the property, did not adhere to a previous notice instructing him to clear the waste. Efforts to remove the waste from the site commenced this week. The court order also prohibits entry to the property for a duration of three months. The council stated its intention to invoice either the tenant or the owner to recoup the expenses associated with the clearance, which are anticipated to amount to thousands of pounds. Councillor Ian Fordham, the cabinet member for environment, commented: “I hope this will bring an end to the misery this person has brought to the residents of Peach Avenue. It was crucial that we had the proper legal process in place to not only get this unsightly mess removed, but to ensure it did not happen on this land again.” He further stated that the authority had made arrangements for the house to be boarded up, and individuals found on the property could face arrest. “We will be working with the owner to make sure the house can be brought back into use and become a positive addition to the street,” Mr Fordham concluded.
