Throughout his career, Nani participated in more matches for Manchester United than for any other club. Nani, the former winger for Manchester United and Portugal, has concluded his professional playing career. The 38-year-old had been active this season with his hometown team, Estrela Amadora, competing in Portugal’s top football division. His last competitive appearance took place at his initial club, Sporting, on 1 November. On social media, he stated: “The time has come to say goodbye, I have decided to finish my career as a professional player.” He continued: “It’s been an amazing ride and I wanted to thank every single person who has helped me and supported me through the highs and lows during a career which lasted over 20 years and gave me so many unforgettable memories. Time to turn a new leaf and focus on new goals and dreams.” Nani transferred to United from Sporting in June 2007 for approximately £21m, subsequently making 230 appearances for the club and netting 41 goals. His tenure at Old Trafford proved fruitful, marked by a Champions League victory in his debut season, alongside four Premier League titles and two League Cups over eight seasons. The 2010-11 season represented Nani’s most notable period with United, during which he received the club’s players’ player of the year award, was included in the PFA’s Premier League team of the year, and led the league with 14 assists. He returned to Sporting on loan during the 2014-15 season, prior to his permanent departure from United to Fenerbache in the subsequent season. His career also included stints with Valencia, Lazio, Sporting (for a third time), Orlando City, Venezia, Melbourne Victory, Adana Demirspor, and ultimately Estrela Amadora. On the international stage, Nani registered 24 goals across 112 appearances and was part of the Euro 2016 winning squad.
