Portions of a footpath in Devon have been shut down subsequent to a tree being dislodged during Storm Bert. Tavistock Town Council reported damage to both a retaining wall and the path situated on Abbey Walk within the town. The council stated that parts of the walkway were initially closed on Sunday as a “safety measure.” The authority further indicated that, following an assessment of the damage on Monday, actions were taken to “install temporary fencing,” enabling the path to be accessible to the public once more. A spokesperson for the council commented: “A programme of works has already been agreed regarding how to rebuild the retaining wall and reinstate the walkway, but these works will be scheduled when it is safe to undertake, considering access is required adjacent to the watercourse.” The spokesperson added that “Advanced warning of when the repairs are due to commence will be provided as this will require a further temporary closure of the walkway, anticipated for a period up to two weeks.” The council conveyed its gratitude to all those impacted for their patience and understanding.
