A busy thoroughfare in Lincolnshire has seen its speed limit decreased to 40mph (approximately 65km/h) due to safety considerations. This revised speed restriction will be enforced on Meadow Lane, a route connecting North Hykeham with the Brant Road vicinity of Lincoln. The planning and regulation committee of Lincolnshire County Council formally endorsed this reduction from 60mph (around 95km/h) on Monday. Ward councillor Tom Dyer commented, stating: “This is something residents in North Hykeham are keen to see implemented.” He added, “It’s a key route, but it’s narrow and not lit. It’s absolutely essential to make the road as safe as possible,” This decision follows a petition signed by over 700 individuals advocating for the change, which was initiated after a 2021 incident where a school bus veered into a ditch, resulting in a 12-year-old boy sustaining a broken arm. Sally, the organizer of the petition, expressed approval of the initiative. She noted that, currently, motorists were traveling at excessive speeds on the road. “We also worry about children walking and biking to school,” she conveyed to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Furthermore, proposals to decrease the speed limit at Whisby Crossroads, situated near Lincoln, from 50mph (approximately 80km/h) to 40mph have also received approval. The committee was informed that this location has experienced four serious collisions within the last five years, including a 2018 crash where a car overturned onto its roof. Council member Marianne Overton stated: “I’m very happy to support this. I know this junction and it always feels dicey – 40mph is definitely the right solution.” Post navigation An Undecided Voter’s Social Media Feeds: Contrasting Content on TikTok and X Peterborough Weekly Overview: Council Challenges, Sporting Highlights, and Community News
