Gatwick Airport is projected to handle its highest volume of festive traffic since the pandemic, as reported by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. The West Sussex facility foresees Sunday as its busiest day, with 769 flights scheduled. Operations will continue on Christmas Day, with an anticipated 228 flights. Nick Williams, who serves as head of passenger operations, commented that Christmas represents a “busy time” and affirmed that staff are “working hard to deliver the best possible experience for passengers”. For this Christmas season, the leading long-haul destinations from Gatwick include Dubai, Shanghai, and Cancun. Meanwhile, Geneva, Barcelona, and Milan are identified as the most frequented short-haul routes. In December of the previous year, nearly 11 million individuals departed from UK airports for the holiday period, as per the UK CAA. Gatwick stood out as one of the most active airports during this time, recording 1,635,732 passengers in December 2023. A spokesperson for Gatwick indicated that the airport had provided its key recommendations for festive travel. For updates, BBC Sussex can be followed on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
