Guernsey’s sole hospice is drawing attention to children’s grief as part of an international awareness day. Les Bourgs Hospice, situated in St Andrews, confirmed its participation in Children’s Grief Awareness Day. The observance aims to heighten understanding of grief among children who have experienced the loss of a loved one or have relatives facing terminal illness. Laura Mauger, a bereavement support nurse at the hospice, stated that grief could “feel isolating for children,” but she suggested that dialogue and comprehension might help them “feel less alone.” The hospice, which delivers services including end-of-life care, indicated that it provides counselling and educational resources to assist children in learning to “express their feelings and cope with loss.” It also noted the availability of a library containing books for both children and adults, designed to aid them in processing and understanding grief. “These books can provide incredible comfort and guidance during such challenging times.” Follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook.
