Glentoran manager Declan Devine has expressed his team’s strong desire “to get that consistency” as they contend with a period of inconsistent performance this season. The club from east Belfast currently occupies seventh place in the Irish Premiership standings, trailing leaders Linfield by eight points, having played one additional match. Their next fixture involves an away game at Mourneview Park against Glenavon, an opponent that has historically presented challenges for them. “We know that when we are at our levels, we’re more than a match for anyone. We’ve had a few wobbles here and there, as most teams have had as well, but we’re certainly looking to improve on our consistency,” Devine stated. He further added, “I really don’t think we’re too far away, but we really have to go and demonstrate it now and make sure that those little inconsistencies that have cost us over the course of the opening phase of games, we can rectify and try and put to bed. “I think coming up to Christmas, you will start to see a bit more consistency from teams. There’s been a lot of surprises and a lot of games where there’s really nothing in it.” Devine also addressed the significant frustration stemming from his side’s failure to convert three consecutive penalties at home in their last three matches. “We have had three consecutive [missed] penalties at home in three weeks and I’ve never in my life experienced anything like that,” he conceded. “It’s the fine margins. They weren’t penalties when you are two or three nil up, they were penalties that were really defining in the moment and if anything has probably been the biggest disappointment.”
